In August 2017, The Avalokiteshavara Sand Mandala was created with the intention to generate world peace and compassion. Using ancient techniques and profound devotion, the monks create intricate sand portraits of the celestial mansions of enlightened beings. It is believed that simply seeing one of these sacred mandalas leaves a powerful positive karmic imprint on our mind streams. The Tsawa Monks came to the Land Of Enlightened Wisdom Center for five days - Aug. 16 to 20 - and tne monks worked from early morning to evening each day creating the mandala for world peace. And on Sunday morning, they scooped up small amounts of the sacred sand to give to those taking part in the closing ceremony. The remaining sand was cast into the water at Puddingstone Reservoir at Bonelli Park in San Dimas in the hope that water and air would carry the lesson of the compassionate Buddha to the world and create more peace, Geshe Wangchuk explained. |
In September 2012, Tibetan Artist Yeshi Dorjee taught students the Art of Butter Sculpture. Butter sculpture is an ancient Tibetan Buddhist art.
Yeshi Dorjee-la demonstrated the techniques of creating a butter flower or "metog" in Tibetan. Students learned hands-on how to work with the butter and create one of these beautiful designs. Large bowls of cold water were used to cool off warm fingers as students learned to manipulate the butter mixture to create the different techniques of making flowers and other designs.

Mahakala is an emanation of Avalokiteshvara in his wrathful form. He appears as Mahakala to defeat the delusions of ignorance, anger, and attachment. Mahakala is a wrathful dharma protector for the Mahayana practitioner. Mahākāla is a Sanskrit bahuvrihi of mahā "great" and kāla " Black". Mahākāla is relied upon in all schools of Tibetan Buddhism. The Mahakala workshop was taught by Mr. Oshoe at Land of Enlightened Wisdom center in Pomona, CA on December 10-11, 2011. Students interested in dharma and art attended the workshop, learning to make the mask of Mahakala with the guidance and understanding on teacher-artist Mr. Oshoe. |
