A Guide to Bodhisattva's Way of Life
Chapter 8 PERFECTION OF MEDITATION
Gocha Tulku

"Upon developing zeal in this way, one should stabilize the mind in meditative concentration, since a person whose mind is distracted lives between the fangs of disturbing conceptions."

Shatideva's presentation of the methods to harmonize one's own way of life with the Bodhisattva's ideal begins with a praise of the spirit of awakening, the Bodhisattva's altruistic aspiration to achieve enlightenment for the sake of all beings.

Shantideva introduces the aspirant to the Awakening Mind, the wish to achieve Buddhahood to be able to liberate all sentient beings, inspires him to develop the wish

and to prepare the mind to fulfill the Bodhisattva's vow. For over a thousand years, this significant work has been a guide for people who wish to follow the path. Gocha Tulku began teaching the Chapter 8 on Meditation class on October 06, 2019.

CHOTRUL DUCHEN
DAY OF MIRACLES

Positive and negative merit increases on the Buddhist Holy Days, so be mindful of your mental, physical and verbal actions. No event has been scheduled for Tuesday.

For fifteen days after the Losar new moon (the first day of new year), Buddha performed multiple miracles and gave teachings each day. The fifteenth day is known as Chotrul Duchen or the Day of Miracles.

The  leaders of the six main philosophical schools had continuously challenged Buddha to a contest of miraculous powers.

Buddha had refused their requests many times, but due to their resentment and jealousy, they persisted with their challeges, following him to his teachings

with their 90,000 followers and making demands to the King to stage a contest. Buddha finally accepted their challenge as he determined that many people following them would be subdued through his display of his miraculous powers, and determined that the contest would take place in Shravasti.

The marks the day when the 90,000 followers of the six schools, adopted the Buddhist doctrine, some becoming monks and Arhats.

The first day of the first lunar month of the Tibetan calendar is Losar.  "Lo"  means "Year" and "Sar" means "New".

The Tibetan families celebrate this holiday by gathering at the local Monastery to make offerings and special prayers for the new year.

The practice of purification for the new year, includes the recitation of prayers and rituals that dissolve the negativities of the old year, inviting positive energy into the New Year!

Palden Lhamo is the wrathful manifestation of the female wisdom diety, Sarasvati. The Palden Lhamo Puja is offered on the last days of the old Tibetan year to purify obstacles for the new year.

When Buddha was a bodhisattva, Palden Lhamo made a pledge that when he was enlightened, she would be the protector of his teaching. Palden Lhamo has many manifestation where she is considered to be the protector of the many lineages and traditions.
