CHOTURL DUCHEN - DAY OF MIRACLE

The Stupa of Miracles commemorates the Day of Miracles or Choturl Duchen. Buddha accepted the challenge of the six leaders of main philosophical schools as he determined that many people following them would be subdued through his display of his miraculous powers, and determined that the contest would take place in Shravasti.

On the new moon of the first month of spring (now known as Losar) for fifteen days, he performed multiple miracles and gave teachings each day. The 90,000 followers of the six schools, adopted the Buddhist doctrine, some becoming monks and Arhats. Geshe Sherap will discuss the history and events of the Day of Miracles, one of major life events in Buddha Shakyamuni's life. Students will also be able to ask any questions they have about Buddhism.

Geshe Sherap lead a Medicine Buddha Puja at the residence of a terminally ill student on this auspicious day.
