ORNAMENT OF REASON - ONLINE
Geshe Tenzin Sherap

Geshe Tenzin Sherap introduces a new presentation of The Root of The Middle Way by Arya Nagajurna at Land of Enlightened Wisdom Center.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama writes,"Nagarjuna's Root of the Middle Way" presents a clear, firm philosophical thesis with respect to things' lacking true existence.

It argues that just as sentient beings are devoid of innate existence, so are all Buddhas, the cycle of existence, and the tranquility of nirvana. Such assertions are a great source of inspiration, for they suggest that each of us has the opportunity to scale the greatest spiritual heights, provided we tread on the right path."

CHAPTER ONE - ABANDONING BELIEF IN PERMANENCE
WRITTEN BY ARYADEVA
GESHE TENZIN SHERAP

Geshe Sherap began to teach the 400 Stanzas on the Middle Way on June 07, 2020 and will continue until all 16 chapters are completed. Geshela taught the text once before from February 2017 to September 2019.

Madhyamika is a philosophy of the middle way between two impossible extremes, that of reified or objective existence  and that of total non-existence.

Madhyamika philosophy demonstrates through the use of reasoning that though things do not exist independently and concretely as they seem to do, they neverless exist: their mode of existence is a dependent one.

AryaDeva

Aryadeva, was a disciple of Nagarjuna and author of several important Mahayana Madhyamaka Buddhist texts.

THE SUTRA OF THE WHEEL OF DHARMA -ONLINE
GESHE TENZIN SHERAP

In the ‘Sutra of the Wheel of Dharma’, the Buddha speaks of having first comprehended suffering and then relinquished it.

His Holiness quoted a verse by Nagarjuna,

Through the elimination of karma and mental afflictions there is liberation;
Karma and mental afflictions come from conceptual thoughts;
These come from mental exaggeration;
Exaggeration ceases through emptiness.

He clarified that it is due to our misconception of true existence that suffering arises, but we will not overcome this by offering lamps or performing rituals. It’s analysing and thinking about dependent arising that enables us to overturn these misconceptions.

Nagarjuna praised the Buddha for teaching how to overcome wrong views. Je Tsongkhapa praised him for teaching about dependent arising.
